The ASEV-NGRA Precision Viticulture Symposium is an international meeting that will explore how viticulture can be applied to the production of high quality wine. The Symposium is designed to bring together the key stakeholders in the viticulture industry to assess the current state of precision viticulture, and discuss the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. The Symposium will bring together scientists, educators, research and industry leaders, viticulturalists and grape growers from around the world.

The ASEV-NGRA is a professional forum for wine and grape experts and grape growers, and covers all aspects of viticulture and viticultural management. Topics covered include vineyard management, grape varieties, wine grape varieties, wine variety trials, wine quality, and viticulture. The Virtual ASEV-NGRA Conference and Symposium is a virtual conference and symposium to train and inspire grape growers and viticulturists. The Virtual ASEV-NGRA will be held next year on June 15-16, 2021.

Industry professionals and academics are invited to network and immerse themselves in the latest scientific and technical information on viticulture and winemaking. Award ceremonies, research papers on enology and viticulture, poster sessions with student flash reports, best paper presentations, best student awards, and vendor exhibits will be available to attendees in a convenient virtual format.

The conference begins at 8:00 a.m. The ASEV-NGRA Precision Viticulture Symposium will be held on Monday the 21st. June to PDT. This one-day symposium, co-hosted by the National Grape Research Alliance (NGRA), will bring together scientists involved in precision viticulture research and growers applying precision technologies and methods. This one-day symposium aims to create a two-way dialogue to identify current research gaps, inform future scientific discoveries, and inspire current innovations.

During the three-day conference, 164 scientists and industry representatives from around the world will discuss the latest developments in this field. In particular, the keynote speaker, Dr. Gavin Sachs of Cornell University, will discuss the known and unknown aspects of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide in wine, based on his extensive work on the aromatic chemistry of wine.

Hildegard Heimann of the University of California, Davis, recipient of the Outstanding Service Award, will speak about her forty years of teaching, research, and writing in the field of wine and sensory science. His presentation, which will be entirely live, will outline the evolution of sense science during his long and distinguished career.

The impact of the ever-changing environment on viticulture will be explored in more detail by this year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Hans Schulz of the University of Geisenheim in Germany. In particular, the presentation by Dr. Anita Oberholster of the University of California, Davis, on the challenges of modern counseling programs is expected. Oberholster received the Outstanding Extension Service Award for its pioneering work in translating new research findings into commercially applicable tools for oenologists and winemakers.

Attendees will have the opportunity to delve into cutting-edge research during six sessions on viticulture and six sessions on enology. Each hour-long session includes three research papers exploring everything from vine physiology to the effects of smoke on grape and wine composition. The speaker’s email capabilities in the conference link allow for follow-up conversations in response to these insights and highlights.
