NEW YORK – 1. April 2021 – Acker, the global leader in Fine and Rare Wines™ and the world’s largest wine auction house, announces the expansion of its fine spirits division to meet the call of avid collectors of rare spirits. Following the launch of Scotch whiskies, limited edition bourbons and other coveted spirits, Acker has strengthened its healthy spirits business with major acquisitions in the U.S. and Hong Kong as it expands its spirits division in both retail and auction and prepares to host its first spirits auction in the Americas in the fall of 2021.
To lead this effort, Acker is proud to announce the hiring of Ethan Kelly as the company’s first-ever Director of Spirits. Based in New York City, Kelly has nearly two decades of experience in the beverage industry, with a focus on fine spirits. He joins Acker after having been membership director and supervisor for the spirits chain, spirits market manager for Domaine Select Wine and Spirits and beverage director for Tribeca’s esteemed Brandy Library bar. A respected expert in the field, he has judged the New York Spirits Awards and the Paul Paco Ultimate Spirits Challenge. It has also been featured on History Channel, MSNBC and the New York Times. Ethan will be tasked with strengthening Aker’s influence in the spirits industry, both domestically and internationally, expanding Aker’s already strong educational offerings, and enhancing the brand’s reputation as a leader in the rare spirits industry.
Following a number of successful spirits auctions in Hong Kong and the exceptional cask auctions of some of the biggest Scottish names such as Macallan and Bowmore, Aker will begin offering monthly online spirits auctions this summer, with the first online spirits-only retail auction taking place in October 2021. The Company also plans to significantly expand its retail inventory of fine and rare spirits worldwide in the coming months, and to host a series of exclusive whiskey seminars and spirits dinners in New York and Hong Kong. The soul sector of the auction market will also be included in the new Acker Markets platform, offering a unique insight into the auction landscape for both buyers and sellers.
