Silverado Vineyards is rolling out a new project: Borreo. The goal of the project is to highlight the unique character of Bordeaux wines and bring a new take on the vintage to the table. The project will see Silverado Vineyards teaming up with local artisan cheese maker, Pat LaFrieda, to create a new cheese product that will complement the wines created through the collaboration. Along with the cheese, the wine will be paired with a new, artisanal bread, made by local bakery, High Street Baking Company.

Jun- MARE ISLAND, CA – Silverado Vineyards, the iconic Napa Valley winery founded in 1981 by Diane Disney Miller and Ron Miller, recently recruited Affinity Creative Group to create a new line of wines under the name Borreo to celebrate Silverado’s 40th anniversary. Felix Borreo was an Italian immigrant and grocer from Napa who bought land near the Soda Springs Resort in Napa Valley and in 1888 built a brick and mahogany winery and planted grapevines, fruit trees and olive trees. In 1992, Silverado’s founders, the Miller family, purchased the property and named the winery Soda Creek Ranch. Today, Silverado’s winemakers, John Emmerich and Elena Franceschi, produce Sangiovese, Rosa, Zinfandel and Kerner, as well as olive oil extracted on site. In honor of Felix Borreo, Silverado changed the name of the winery to Borreo Ranch and wanted the brand and label to reflect the history of Felix and the area. The challenge for Affinity Creative Group was to respect Borreo’s rich heritage without reverting to the typical and expected visual clichés of the wine label. Additionally, the new brand should reaffirm Silverado’s stewardship of this unique vineyard and its unexpected varietals. When the 2017 Atlas Fire destroyed the historic Ghost Winery on this legendary property, we knew we had to do something special to honor Felix’s legacy and the location, said Russell Weiss, president of Silverado Vineyards. So we decided to celebrate our anniversary by renaming our Soda Canyon Ranch to Borreo; producing a wine that bears its name, reflects the quality of the fruit, and is bottled in packaging inspired by its time. Affinity gladly accepted the challenge and developed a label design system with a highly original look. Borreo’s brand image is bold and spread across the label in an inverted band that perfectly bridges the gap between the classic and modern worlds of typographic design. Unexpected vintage-inspired colors alternate, providing contrast and patina for a range of beautiful retro designs. Working closely with Affinity, the botanical illustrations on the label were designed by Annabelle Ray Miller, a fourth-generation winery owner and great-granddaughter of Walt Disney. The realistic depiction of grapes, lemons, pomegranates and other fruits draws attention to the label and naturally highlights the Borreo brand.
