Auction of Washington Wines will host a virtual wine tasting on June 30-Aug. 4, 2021, via their online portal. Attendees will have the opportunity to taste wines produced by Washington wineries, and will be charged a nominal fee of $1.99 for each tasting.

The AOWA Wine Auction is the nation’s largest wine tasting event. Not only do customers sample the wines that are being auctioned at the event, but they also get the opportunity to taste wines from all over the world that were previously thought lost or unavailable, including wines from California, Oregon, Washington, Washington DC, and Canada. Held each June in Olympia, the AOWA Wine Auction has regularly drawn large crowds of between 1,500 and 3,000 wine fans.


For the second year in a row, the wine expert and AWW 2020-2021 president emeritus is hosting four virtual tastings with Washington’s top winemakers and grape producers.

WHAT : Wine lovers are invited to join the Washington Wine Auction (AWW) for the second annual Virtual Tasting Series with Karen McNeil. Karen McNeil, renowned wine expert and president emeritus of World Wine Week 2020-2021, will partner with several Washington State winemakers and wine merchants to host four virtual wine tastings during the summer months of 2021.

Each session is dedicated to a different aspect of Washington wine, and key industry players will offer their opinions and guide attendees through a virtual tasting. The series begins on June 30 and ends on August 4, just before AWW’s annual August event weekend, which runs from the 10th to the 16th. August 2021 will take place.

The 2021 Virtual Wine Tasting Series kicks off on Wednesday, June 30 and focuses on the Horse Heaven Hills geographic region. McNeil will be joined by winemakers Ray McKee of Trothe, Damon Huard of Passing Time and Katie Nelson of Chateau Ste. Michelle, who will present three vintages of Horse Heaven Hills and discuss the personality of this American Viticultural Area (AVA).

The topic of the second session is Exploring Washington Syrah Blends; this session will feature Will Wiles of Columbia Crest, Noah Fox-Reed of Tinte Cellars, and Christian Grieb of Treveri Cellars. Led by McNeil, they will talk about the differences between the dark Syrah grape and other Washington varietals and how that makes this style of wine one of Washington’s best. This meeting will take place on the 14th. July takes place.

On the 21st. In July, Mr. McNeil will hold a third session on Bordeaux-style wines. The tasting includes Cabernet blends and tasting notes from Greg Frichette of Frichette Winery, Dennis Cakebread of Mullan Road Cellars and Coman Dinn of Co Dinn Cellars.

The series starts on the 4th. August concluded with a second tasting of Cabernet blends from the Washington wine region. Brian Carter of Brian Carter Cellars, David O’Reilly of Owen Roe and Marie-Yves Gilla, winemaker emeritus of Valdemar Estates, will lead a tasting of the region’s best Cabernet Sauvignons and discuss what makes Washington State a great wine region.
