In recognition of what many consider to be the most important wine in the world, Baghera/Wines will be holding a Romanée-Conti vertical tasting dinner at their East Village location next Thursday evening. Unlike the usual vertical tasting, this dinner will be broken into five phases, each of which will feature one of the five vintages of Romanée-Conti from the past five years. In addition to the famous Burgundy producer’s flagship, Baghera/Wines will be pairing their flight with dishes from the Café Rouge menu.

Part of Baghera/Wines’ continued commitment to supporting the wines of Burgundy, the French-based wine retailer has officially launched a special vertical of La Romanée-Conti. The 2008 vintage is the second wine in the series, which will continue to be announced as the wines become available. As is clear from the name, La Romanée-Conti is one of the most sought-after Burgundies in the world, with the 2008 having an average price of $3,100 per bottle.

Geneva, 19. 20 April 2021 – The auction La Romanée Memories 1862-2005 by Baghera/wines reached its climax on Sunday 18. In April, 100% of the lottery tickets were sold for CHF 9’638’976 / $ 10’537’328 / € 8’639’414, doubling the pre-sale estimate of 4.8 million. CHF. The results of the first sale of Baghera/wines in 2021 confirm the strength of the reputation and expertise of Baghera/wines, and the enthusiasm of collectors and connoisseurs. Online buyers were particularly active: 52% of the lots were sold online.

Lot 325, a set of 12 bottles of the legendary 1865 La Romanée wine, the last in the world, sold for 1,952,000 Swiss francs, more than four times the original estimate. This makes it the most expensive wine sold in the last two years (the previous record belonged to Baghera/wines for a great Pinchiorri wine in 2020). The second most expensive lot, no. 322, a set of six bottles of La Romanée 1865, sold for 1,061,400 Swiss francs, more than four times the original high estimate. The total value of the first ten lots in the auction is approximately 6.2 million Swiss francs.

La Romanée is not only the smallest of the Burgundy sites with only 0.85 hectares, but also the most prestigious, surrounded by world famous estates such as La Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, Richebourg and La Romanée St-Vivant.

Michael Gunn, CEO of Baghera/wines, stated: We are honoured by the trust placed in us by the Maison Bouchard Père & Fils. The impeccable expertise, the near-perfect quality of the lots on display and the enthusiasm of collectors and connoisseurs from around the world made the Souvenirs de La Romanée 1865-2005 auction an exceptional moment dedicated to the love of wine. Constant communication with the winegrowers is an important part of our daily lives, and without it our profession would be uninteresting. The dedication of our teams to our global customers has resulted in incredible and unprecedented online participation based on the trust and quality of the products we offer.

Gilles de Larouzier Henriot, president of Bouchard Père & Fils, stated: This excellent result reflects the continuous enthusiasm of the great wine lovers for Burgundy. It is also a living tribute to the incomparable know-how of Bouchard Père & Fils, a great historical and emblematic Burgundian wine estate. Baghera/wines is the only partner capable of achieving such a result.
