Baghera/Wines is the world’s premier auction house, but not always the easiest to understand. Auctions are held every month, featuring the finest wines the world has to offer, but can often be confusing to the average consumer, who’s not familiar with the jargon. The upcoming auction, Burgundy Fields Forever, is no exception. Fortunately, Burgundy Fields Forever has been simplified to make it easy to understand, while still providing the excitement that Baghera/Wines is known for.

For the past several decades, the Burgundy region of France has been the hub of activity for both collectors and auction houses alike. The wines of Burgundy have been regarded as some of the most sought after in the world, and dominate many of the wine enthusiast’s top lists. (That’s putting it lightly.) Recently, however, the region has been hit hard by drought, torrential rains and the very dreaded Oidium. The vineyard owners have been forced to sell off their futures in order to pay for their loses, and have been left with little to nothing to sell once the harvest starts.

Geneva, 6. May 2021 – Just three years after the historic Henri Gayer auction, which took place on 17. June 2018, placing it at the top of European wine auctions with total proceeds of 34.5 million Swiss francs, Baghera/wines is offering a new auction event in memory of Henri Gayer. A true ode to Burgundy, Baghera’s next wine sale, BURGUNDY FIELDS FOREVER, will take place on Sunday, June 20, 2021 in Geneva. On this occasion, three remarkable collections are brought together: the first comes from a Swiss collector; the second consists of great Burgundy wines from the private collection of the famous Côte d’Or vineyard; the third consists of legendary wines given by the famous winemaker Henri Gayer to his eldest daughter Lidi Gayer.

Once again, the beautiful wine region of Burgundy is celebrated. This baghera/wine sale offers a journey in three acts to the heart of the Burgundian kingdoms.

This is a wonderful anniversary for us, reminding us that just three years ago we held the largest wine auction in the world. Today, with the presentation of bottles from the personal cellar of Henri Gayer’s eldest daughter, Lidy Gayer, we are once again highlighting the knowledge and expertise, as well as the incredible talent, of both the old and new winemakers of Burgundy. The sale Bourgogne Fields Forever is an ode to Burgundy and its artisans. This exceptional region produces rare nectars and the trust of its winemakers allows us to make these harvests available to wine lovers and collectors around the world, said Michael Gunn and Julie Carpentier, founders of Baghera/wines and the auction house.

First act:

The first collection to come directly from Switzerland has been expertly assembled by an experienced collector and consists of impressive vertical pieces spread across several large estates. This passionate Swiss man was particularly fascinated by the vineyards of the Côte de Nuits and has always built his collection according to his personal taste, which is decidedly impeccable. The collection demonstrates an admirable knowledge of the Burgundian climate and is stored with care and strict discipline, allowing for perfect preservation – a crucial factor for Baghera wines.

A lot:

  • Lot 3: Domaine Jean-Yves Bizot, Echézeaux 2006, 6 Magnums – CHF 12,000 – 24,000
  • Lot 25:  Domaine René Engel, Clos-Vougeot, 5-magnum vertical from 1996 to 2003 – CHF 9,000 – 18,000
  • Lot 39: Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, La Tâche, vertical of 6 bottles from 2005 to 2011 – CHF 18,000 – 36,000

Second act:

The second collection from the private cellar of the great Burgundian house presents the great wines of the Côte de Nuits, considered ripe and usually inaccessible. It is a cellar in the traditional sense of the word that cherishes these jewels and protects them from the effects of time. In the purest tradition of winegrowers, these bottles are passed from generation to generation, with all the usual recommendations and all the know-how of the winegrowers, whether it is about preserving, storing and, of course, tasting.

A lot:

  • Lot 61:  Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Romanée-Conti 1961, 2 bottles – CHF 19,000 – 38,000
  • Lot 68: Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, La Tâche 1959, 6 bottles – CHF 22,000 – 44,000
  • Lot 72: Domaine Armand Rousseau, Chambertin 1959, 1 Sheroboam (300cl) – CHF 40’000 – 80’000

17. June 2018 – The Baghera/Vins d’Henri Jayer heritage wine auction made history, with proceeds exceeding CHF 34.5 million , making it the largest wine auction in absolute terms to date.

Baghera/wines continues the family tradition with the latest collection Burgundy Fields Forever by Baghera/wines , which was launched on 20. The June 2021 date has been exhausted. This collection is kept by the eldest daughter of the famous winegrower Henri Gayer and is the work of the maestro himself, who carefully selected these nectars for his daughter and grandson. The journey through the vineyards chosen by this virtuoso, his incomparable expertise on prestigious terroirs such as Richebourg or Eschezeau, up to the legendary Cros-Parantoux, can be found in these bottles which bear witness to his incredible flair and the legendary art of the Pinot.

Relying on his unique skills and faithful intuition, Henri Gayer selected these bottles himself. They are all created by Himself and carry within them the seed of excellence.

Like the bottles offered in the heritage shop Baghera Henri Jayer, and although they come from Lidi Jayer’s personal cellar, all the bottles in this collection have undergone the same treatment, i.e. they were corked and labelled in 2018.

A lot:

  • Lot 141: Domaine Henri Jayer, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Parantoux, 10 vertical bottles from 1982 to 2001 – CHF 130,000 – 260,000
