View Founded in December 2010 by the BNIC (Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac), the Cognac Educator programme has already certified nearly 100 professionals and managers in the spirits sector in more than 20 countries. Over the past decade, these Cognac trainers have organized more than 1,300 master classes and trained 55,000 professionals worldwide. These educators have set themselves the goal to spread knowledge of the cognacc culture and the pleasures of this unique spirit and to contribute to making the name of cognac known in the world. As the main intermediaries in the market, educators come from different backgrounds, including bartenders, shopkeepers, consultants, journalists, educators, and so on.

In 2020, cognac educators in the United States organised master classes and virtual tastings for bartenders, a happy hour for the media and a course on cognac and cheese making as part of the Cognac Connection Challenge campaign and other initiatives.

Every year about thirty professionals with a passion for spirits from all over the world apply to join this community, a dozen of whom become Certified Cognac Educators. You are invited to visit Cognac to immerse yourself in the world of this wine brandy, discover its particularities and meet the main players in the sector. After the three days of training, candidates sit two exams – one written and one oral – in front of a panel of experts composed of Negroes, winemakers and journalists. Successful candidates receive a certificate and become members of the global community of cognac educators.

The BNIC (Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac) represents, promotes and defends the Cognac Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée in France and abroad. In the 150 countries where Cognac is sold, this AOC guarantees consumers a product of exceptional quality. The BNIC, whose members equally represent the agricultural and commercial interests of Cognac, is an advisory and decision-making body for 4 280 winegrowers, 120 distillers and 280 traders in the Cognac designation.
