Taste Washington Wine Month
March 1 – SEATTLE – Today begins Washington Taste Month and Washington Wine Month. Normally a four-day festival with in-person participation and activities, this year there are new and unique opportunities to sample Washington’s most popular wines and foods throughout the month.
From the beginning, Taste Washington has played a vital role in the great history of our vineyard, said John Sportelli of Columbia Winery, which has been a member of Taste Washington since its first year. We reach highly engaged consumers by showcasing our wines and pairing them with delicious Northwest cuisine, educational seminars and culinary demonstrations, all of which highlight the quality and versatility of our wines.
Traditionally, the Taste of Washington is celebrated by showcasing the state’s wealth of wine and food at various locations in downtown Seattle. To maintain the spirit of the festival, Taste of Washington is introducing a new format that allows people everywhere to discover new Washington-inspired combinations. Through creative promotions, people can sample Washington’s incredible cuisine while directly supporting the Washington wineries and restaurants they love.
Guests in Washington are always eager to learn more about the wines of this exceptional wine region and its dynamic stories, Sportelli said. The event is a worthwhile reunion, bringing the wine community together and providing an opportunity to meet so many friends and colleagues in one place.
Taste of Washington has always been a platform to connect with industry colleagues, our neighbors and of course our customers, says Lacey Lybecker, owner of Cairdeas Winery in Lake Chelan. This year we have become more creative than ever in the way we defend our clients’ interests. This year’s Taste of Washington makes it easier for winemakers to participate, and we’re excited to be involved on several levels. On a local level, we donate a portion of our recipes to the Washington Wine Industry Foundation throughout the month and participate in weekly themes where we pair our syrahs and red blends with the dishes of our friendly restaurants.
Taste Washington 2021 proudly presents Taste Washington To Go and Taste Washington At Home, as well as unique wine and restaurant events, hotel packages and more. Wineries and restaurants throughout Washington offer weekly and monthly specials and promotions according to themes that last five weeks:
- Cabernet Sauvignon and stew (1-7 March)
- Chardonnay and the catch of the day (8-14 March)
- Syrah and barbecue (15-21 March)
- Red Blends & Family Recipes (March 22-28).
- Riesling, pasta and dumplings (29 March to 4 April)
The new format will allow more restaurants and wineries to participate. Regular members of Taste Washington like Fire & Vine, known for their oyster bar during Grand Tasting and Red and White parties in the past, are back.
Each year our team looks forward to meeting old and new friends at Taste Washington to celebrate the best of Washington State food and wine. After a challenging year, we are excited to be back open and enjoying and celebrating life with our guests and wine partners, said Tamara Neely, director of marketing and communications for Fire & Vine Hospitality. This year, we are pleased to introduce El Gaucho To Go with our iconic menu for two, paired with Canvasback Cabernet Sauvignon and Aerlume packages featuring Wild Salmon King and Chardonnay Passing Time. We also offer a special glass of Cabernet Sauvignon Canvasback at all Revelers Club restaurants.
Taste of Washington organizers have developed a new format to attract more restaurants, from pop-ups to state favorites. There are several exhibitors at the show this year, including Jerk Shack in downtown Seattle.
I am very excited to participate in Taste of Washington this year to represent my community, which is not used to attending wine and food events. The Jerk Shack is the only 100% black restaurant in downtown Seattle, and we offer the best Caribbean cuisine you can afford, says Trey Lamont, owner and chef of the Jerk Shack. Being a part of Taste of Washington this year means a lot to me. Growing up in a hotel, I wanted to be a chef. I had always heard that food and wine were so important to the hospitality industry, and I could see how to prepare a successful event. I feel it’s my turn.
Taste Washington To Go, presented by Alaska Airlines, invites you to plan your meals around a new Washington wine and food collaboration every week in March. Enjoy the perfect pairing of fine wine and food from your favorite restaurant, focusing on the best of Washington. Orders are open today for the second week with the theme of Chardonnay and the catch of the day. Recommended restaurants include Aerlume, Gravy, Goldfinch Tavern, Joule, Local Tide and Serious Takeout Ballard.
Taste Washington At Home, presented by Whole Foods Market, invites you to become a chef yourself. Each week in March, a new recipe will highlight Washington producers, with recommendations for the perfect match of wines. We invite viewers across the country to purchase ingredients at their local health food market or nearest grocery store and then cook safely at home to celebrate our weekly theme. This week’s recipe is a Tuscan Tofu Lasagna with local producer Island Spring Organics from Vashon Island, WA. This dish goes perfectly with Lobo Hills Cabernet Sauvignon.
Shut it down. Dozens of hotels offer wine packages with a combination of check-in services such as free parking and other benefits.
In addition to the Taste of Washington events, the Washington State Wine Commission will encourage Washingtonians to support their local farmers and families through a major media campaign. Popular retailers such as QFC, Metropolitan Market, Safeway, Whole Foods Market and Costco offer special deals and discounts on Washington wines each month in honor of Taste Washington Wine Month.
