B.C. Winery offers financial assistance to hospitality workers and establishes new wine education fund with BCHF

PENTICTON, British Columbia – 31. March 20, 2021 – The City of 7 Vineyards and Winery is proud to deepen its relationship with the British Columbia Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) this spring as part of its 2nd annual Support, Ship & Sip campaign. This charity event will raise money for hospitality workers in need and for the new BC Wine Industry Scholarship and Education Fund (BC WISE). The scholarship is for students in viticulture, oenology and wine business management. He was born on the 15th. January 2021 has started, and the first prize will be awarded in May.

Unfortunately, the COVID-19 crisis has been going on for over a year now, and workers in the hospitality industry are facing major economic hardships due to all the closures and restrictions imposed on their businesses. With the B.C. government announcing Monday that it will be closing its doors for three weeks, we hope that charitable efforts like ours and those of the wine community will help ease some of the financial burden, said Mike Raffan, CEO of 7 Township Vineyards and Wineries. When we approached the BCHF last summer with the idea of a new viticulture scholarship, we were delighted with their genuine support. They were fantastic at the launch of BC WISE earlier this year and have worked with us and others in the industry to promote it to potential students. There is a huge skills shortage in our industry, especially in the Okanagan Valley. We believe that BC WISE will help develop the next generation of talent in the wine industry and we hope it will encourage people to pursue a career here in British Columbia. We hope that our donation of $10 per online order at the Support, Ship & Sip site in April will be as successful as it was a year ago.

BCHF executive director Dana Harris said: We are honored that Township 7 is partnering with BCHF to support the important work we do to help people in the hospitality industry who are experiencing financial hardship due to health issues. A bonus of our sponsorship is that this new BC WISE grant will also help attract qualified professionals to BC wineries.

To that end, Township 7 is building on last year’s successful campaign, in which the winery donated $5,000 to the BCHF in support of hospitality workers in need, and is renewing its Support, Ship & Sip charity campaign. In April, Township 7 will donate $10 to the BCHF for every online order, with a goal of reaching $5,000.
