It is with great excitement that I announce we have hired Olivier Grémillon as the new Ceo of Vivino. Olivier has long been a passionate member of the Vivino team and is well known in the wine industry. Having worked with Vivino since its launch in 2014, he knows our company well and has extensive experience in building, growing, and scaling technology companies.

Vivino has announced that Olivier Grémillon will be joining the company as chief executive officer. Grémillon comes from a strong background in business and is a seasoned wine industry executive. He will lead the development and expansion of our rapidly growing business across all of Europe.

The former and Airbnb executive will lead Vivino’s global expansion and market growth; founder Heini Zachariassen will remain a board member and chief evangelist.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (June 3, 2021) – Vivino, the world’s most downloaded mobile wine app and largest online wine marketplace, has hired Olivier Gremillon, effective June 26-July, as the company’s new CEO.

Heini Zachariassen, the current CEO and founder of Vivino, will hand over the baton to Gremillion, an expert in creating and developing passionate digital communities. Previously, Gremillion led demo growth at (NASDAQ: BKNG) and Airbnb (NASDAQ: ABNB). Mr. Zachariassen will remain on Vivino’s Board of Directors and will continue in his role as Chief Evangelist for the company.

Vivino was founded in 2010 by two industry outsiders, Zachariassen and Theis Søndergaard, who wanted to take the guesswork out of choosing a wine.  They accomplished this by creating the world’s first and most comprehensive wine library. Vivino has attracted a community of over 50 million people, from the curious to wine lovers. Vivino’s five-star rating system is the most widely used and recognized impartial wine rating system. Vivino also connects its community with more than 700 merchants in 17 international markets to buy wine.  In February 2021, the company raised $155 million in Series D to continue its growth and expansion in the market. E-commerce marketplace Vivino saw its fastest growth during the blockchain pandemic, resulting in $265 million in wine sales by 2020.

It’s the perfect time to get started at Vivino, Gremillon said. With the collective power of 50 million people sharing their curiosity about wine, the time has come to bring about revolutionary changes in wine buying habits. With a decade of data collected by scanning nearly two billion wine labels and hundreds of millions of unbiased reviews and ratings, no one does a better job than Vivino at connecting wine lovers around the world with the wines they love.

Mr. Gremillion is a proven leader in driving growth across multiple market platforms and working with the world’s largest companies to develop and implement successful growth strategies. During his three years at, Gremillion led the company’s global market expansion and was responsible for growth in the increasingly competitive travel and hospitality market segment. Gremillion also spent six years at Airbnb, where he led the launch and expansion of the company in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, serving a loyal community of travelers throughout the region.

With consumers clearly increasing their purchase of wine online over the past year, the time seemed right to hire a new leader with the skills and experience to take our company to the next level of development and accelerate our growth, Zachariassen said. Olivier brings his years of experience and success to Vivino, allowing even more consumers to purchase wine from our marketplace confident that they are getting the best wine for their taste buds.

Haynie has consistently led Vivino for ten years and we are very grateful that he continues to lead the company, said Christophe Navarre, president of Vivino and former chairman and CEO of Moët-Hennessy. Olivier’s appointment will bring a fresh, community-focused perspective to the company and strengthen Vivino’s position as a leading global resource.

Vivino users have scanned more than 1.6 billion wine labels, written 72 million reviews and rated 204 million wines from 13.5 million bottles. Vivino’s unique wine buying experience uses community data to provide personalized wine recommendations to each user through Match for You, so they always drink the wine they love. Vivino’s growing community of several million people can buy wines from hundreds of independent sellers in the United States and sixteen other countries.
