Texas is an amazing place. It has been called the greatest state in the union, and there is no wonder why. Texas has a love for hunting, fishing, hiking, camping and golfing, and of course drinking. And after all, Texas is an agricultural state and its wine, in more than a few cases, is a representation of the land that nurtures it.

Last year, William Chris Vineyards partnered with Ali Schmidt of WJW Wine & Whisky Bar in Ft. Worth, Texas to create a Texas red wine blend that would benefit Texas families in need. The wine is a tribute to the state’s rich farming history, the iconic Texas Stars flag and a salute to the iconic Red River Valley of Texas, where the grapes were grown. The wine is named in honor of the W. W. Hobby family, the founders of Hobby Airframe in Dallas, Texas, who started the company in 1935. Hobby Airframe, based in Dallas, was the world’s largest producer of airplane and helicopter parts in the 1940s and 1950s. With the help of the W. W.

The William Chris Vineyards in Texas has teamed up with Texas Sommelier Ali Schmidt to release a limited-edition wine benefitting a charity that works to fight hunger in the state. The wine, called the William Chris Vineyards Texas Red Blend, is made from grapes sourced from the vineyards of William Chris Vineyards in South Texas, with grapes from Texas Sommelier Ali Schmidt’s vineyard in Hays, Texas. 100% of the wine’s proceeds will be donated to Feeding Texas, which is a nonprofit that works to fight hunger in the state. The wine went on sale on October 11, and is available in select Texas stores.. Read more about sommelier wine and let us know what you think.

The Wanderer Relief Project II wine series, made from 100% Texas grapes, is already available online and at select Texas retailers.

AUSTIN, TEXAS (June 2021)– Chris Brundrett, co-owner and winemaker of William Chris Vineyards, is pleased to announce the launch of the Wanderer Relief Project II series, featuring a new wine to benefit Feeding Texas, made in collaboration with Ali Schmidt, Texas Sommelier and Director and Manager of Emmer & Rye Wine. The wine is already available on the WCV website (www.williamchriswines.com/product/wanderer-series-relief-project-2020-cinsault) and at the following retailers in select areas of Texas: H-E-B, Spec’s, Central Market, Kroger, Whole Foods Market and several independent bottle shops in Texas.

We set up the first aid project wine in 2020 because we saw an opportunity to support our fellow Texans, Brundrett said. Last year we focused on the restaurant community, which was completely blocked by the pandemic. This year we are partnering with Feeding Texas because we know many Texans are still recovering from last year’s blows. Ali and I are proud to support this great cause through our Wanderer Series Relief II project.

The Wanderer Series Relief Project II red blend is composed of 92% Cinsault and 8% Carignan from the High Plains of Texas. It is juicy and bright with generous strawberry and cherry notes and a silky texture.

This wine is for the summer of 2021, for when you sit down with friends and family and warm afternoons turn into late afternoons, Schmidt said. Best served chilled in the fridge or on ice for 20 minutes, the wine is then drunk on its own or with picnics, barbecues and grilled meats.

Wine was founded to support and nurture Texas families in need so they can get back on their feet. The pandemic has already forced more Texans than ever to turn to food banks, government food programs and other sources of food assistance. But the need for food grew even more as our network of food banks helped families in Texas recover from the recent winter storms, said Celia Cole, executive director of Feeding Texas. We are grateful for the support of the second aid project in the Wanderer series.

Another remarkable aspect of the project is the generosity shown once again by the industrial partners. This project would not have been possible without the support of Victory Wine Group, which distributes the wine, Canales & Co. of Austin, which created the label design, and Berlin Glass, which supplied the bottles.

The Wanderer Series Relief Project was launched in April 2020 to support the hard-working group of chefs, waitresses, sommeliers and bartenders who make up the Texas restaurant community that has been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. The blended red wine, made in collaboration with master sommelier Craig Collins, sold out online and in all stores and raised more than $45,000 for the Southern Smoke Foundation.
