Richmond, Virginia – 1. March 2021. – Winebow Imports is pleased to welcome the iconic New Zealand vineyard Villa Maria Estate to its portfolio starting today and become its exclusive importer into the United States.

We are excited and honored to partner with the Villa Maria estate. Their well-documented achievements and leadership in the category have earned them an outstanding reputation as New Zealand wine pioneers, said Ian Downey, Executive Vice President of Winebow Imports. The guiding principles of Villa Maria always point to positive changes. Their longstanding commitment to the relationship between responsible management, community and quality is well reflected in today’s market. We look forward to the growth of this well-known brand.

Villa Maria was founded by Sir George Fistonich in 1961, when the wine industry in New Zealand was still in its infancy. From the very beginning Villa Maria has distinguished itself by the importance it attaches to quality. The unique focus on location, meticulous vineyard management, careful selection of grapes and innovative vinification have enabled Villa Maria to produce exceptional wines never before seen in New Zealand.

A founding member of Sustainable Viticulture New Zealand in 1997, Villa Maria is also a leader in sustainability, with the well-being of the land, people and community at the heart of its long-term vision. Building on its commitment in recent years, Villa Maria plans to convert 100% of its vineyards to organic farming by 2030, reduce carbon dioxide emissions per bottle of wine by 50% and eliminate landfill waste by 2025.

Producing world-class wines with the utmost respect for our special terroir is at the heart of everything we do, says Matthew Deller MW, Villa Maria’s Director of Global Sales and Marketing. We are thrilled to begin this new chapter with the team at Winebow Imports, who share our passion for great wines and our vision for the future. With this new partnership, all of us at Villa Maria are looking forward to taking our business in the United States to new heights.
