Jean Hofliger, a world-renowned consulting winemaker, joins the Texas Wine Collective.

Fredericksburg, Texas (March 1, 2021) – Jean Heflinger, an internationally recognized and critically acclaimed consulting winemaker, is proud to join the Texas Wine Collective in 2021. Jean will immediately begin working with the existing winery teams at Brennan Vineyards and Lost Oak Winery to improve farming practices and wine quality.

In 2005. Gin began wine production at the Alpha Omega Winery in town. Napa, based in Oakville, as winemaker and general manager. After 12 successful professional years, he changed careers to become a full-time wine consultant. Since then, Jean has worked with many renowned producers around the world, including : Monteverro in Tuscany, Pact(e) in Burgundy, Perinet in Priorat, Tolosa Winery in Edna Valley, Vineyards V. in Sonoma County, and Mr. Michel Rolland, Newton Vineyard and the Hill Family Estate in Napa Valley. The diversity of his clients and the wines he produces has enabled Jean to gather information on grape varieties and terroirs covering an extraordinarily wide range of grape varieties, regions, climates, growing methods and winery collectives. Gene has an incredibly appealing perspective and we look forward to seeing how he will apply his knowledge to our growing region, said Dave Bryant, CEO of Texas Wine College. With his national and international experience, he is a perfect fit for our team and our vineyards. He hasn’t seen much in terms of varieties and climate, and we know he can create sublime expressions of our Texas terroir that will redefine the limits of what is possible in our great state, Dave adds.

For Jean, Texas offers a whole new horizon to explore. I’m excited because in this age of globalization, the most important thing for me is to make wine with a sense of place, Jean explains. And in Texas, I have the incredible opportunity to help these wineries discover the true DNA of Texas wine.

This spring, Gene will join the teams at Brennan Vineyards and Lost Oak Winery to begin work on the vines in preparation for bud germination. From there, he will help develop a farming strategy for the rest of the growing season and will be on site in the fall for harvest and winemaking. Our teams and vinification operations will remain as they are, and Jean will just guide us through the growing season, Dave explains. All members of the team are looking forward to working with him and we are all very excited about the quality of the wines we can produce with his internationally proven techniques.

About Brennan Vineyards

Brennan Vineyards was founded in 2001 by Dr. Pat and Trellisa Brennan. Their love of wine led them to where they are today. Brennan Vineyards is located in one of the oldest preserved estates in Texas, with a tasting room in the historic McCrary House. About Lost Oak Wine

Gene Estes, founder and winemaker of Lost Oak Winery near Burleson, Texas, began his winemaking career in 1963 in the family garage. After years of work and training concentrated in the United States and France, he honed his skills in viticulture and winemaking. In 1999 he produced his first real wine from grapes grown in Vinifera vineyards and in 2006 he founded Lost Oak Winery with the purchase of Lone Oak Vineyards.

Today, Lost Oak Winery is run by his daughter, Roxanne Myers. That leaves the family vineyard south of Fort Worth. The winery is dedicated to offering its guests a place to relax and enjoy award-winning Texas wines, wine tastings, tours and entertainment. The winery and vineyard offer a picturesque setting on the banks of Country Creek, with five acres of cultivated vines, majestic oaks and winding hiking trails. They make wines from different grape varieties, both dry and sweet. Five of their wines have received double gold medals, and more than 25 others have won gold medals in national tasting competitions, including the San Francisco International Wine Competition and the Texas International Wine Competition.

Texas winemaker Jim Evans is the producer of Lost Oak wine. A graduate of Texas A&M University, Jim has been harvesting grapes and making wine in Texas since 1981. In 1984, he joined the Experimental Viticulture and Oenology Program at the University of Texas and held that position until 1996, when he became winemaker of Lone Oak Vineyards (now Lost Oak Winery). In 1997 and 2017, Jim received the Louis F. Qualia Award from the Texas Winegrowers and Grape Growers Association (TWGGA), which recognizes the pioneering spirit of a Texas grape grower or producer.
